"Speaking of Creative, there are bound to be mac evangelists starting their nonsense again, going on and on about how Creative sucks and mac rules (and therefore, it's buyers rule too). Gah! I hate Mac evangelists. Hate them as much as religion evangelists and cb MLM sellers and scientologists. Not because Mac products suck, but because Mac users all seem to think they are so fucking cool just coz they use Mac. "
- Quote from Xia Xue's blog
SHE IS DAMN IT AGAINST THE PEOPLE WHO SUPPORT MAC! Oh well, she even uses the f-word on us?! ARGHHHHH!!!!!!! Mac users ARE cool because Macs ARE cool. Hey not everybody can discriminate between the world's most popular OS and he world's most ADVANCED OS...people have never used a Mac before and they are sprouting some kinda crap just to put us Mac evangelists down! I feel frustrated and angry!!!!!
Ok but that's beside the point. Just happened to read that off her blog about MP3 players and this got me TOTALLY PISSED.
But on the other hand...
Oh damn. Just when I thought EVERY single program in iLife was good. iChat is crapped up. Tried setting up my hotmail and gmail to no avail. The thing just wouldn't connect, said that I gave an incorrect password...when I didn't! Finally, some Mac stuff I dislike. Think I'll still be better off with the popular MSN, although I don't really like it. That's why I gave iChat a shot, but my accounts didn't work?!
Well, today, I went out to Parkway with the VS gang: Miao, Sam, Hin Kai, Reuben, Wei Liang, and Andrew. Went to Macdonalds again. Looks like that's the only economical place to accomodate all 7. We talked and talked and talked...and I felt this warm fuzziness, you know, the feeling of being with old friends.
It wasn't too long ago when we were together as a class in Sec 2, and before you know it, poof, like magic, it's been a few months, and we have all parted for our own ways. Time flies, and it's sure good to meet up again.
And now that I and Sam have left, Miao has a chance to shine, and he sure is. Being the head of Media Club is indeed quite a feat...and Sam's and Miao's new-found love for camera talk has left me in a complete daze as I struggle to decipher the jargon like 20D or something of the like...
Aiya, the car talk is something I'm more familiar and comfortable with, although it has shifted from the Toyotas and Hondas and Nissans to the more fascinating Porsches, Lamborghini and Mercs, but occasionally to the comparably disgraceful Hyundais and Kias, where Miao would proudly comment on the solid Pioneer sound installed on every Hyundai. After all, his parents are the owners of two Kia Ceratos and a cute Hyundai Getz. Rich eh?
Ok I needa stop now. Exhaustion is getting a hold of me. Sleep is luring me to my bed. Ah, the weekends are so great!

Windows Vista, what a joke
I just happened to visit the Microsoft website today to find out more about the upcoming Windows Vista, a much anticipated boost in overall feel to the current Windows XP.
Check this out. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/default.aspx
Microsoft has devoted a new website to the new OS slated to be released probably at the end of this year. Being the curious me, I took some time to browse through their whole site to see just how Vista would look like.
It is undoubtedly a very drastic improvement from the current Windows, in fact, almost comparable in standards to Mac OS X Tiger in terms of overall feel and look.
But as I scrolled through the pages, I was literally laughing my way through Microsoft’s newly added features and programs. Indeed, I was laughing. Really LAUGHING.
That’s because Vista is a COMPLETE Mac Tiger rip-off. Seriously, I mean it. A lot of features were copied or borrowed or improved from OS X. Well, I guess that Microsoft knew that they would not be able to keep up with OS X if they didn’t launch their own new operating system, so the un-innovative people at Microsoft decided to come up with the so unoriginal Vista.
Well, for the majority who has been faithfully deluded into using XP, they will definitely warmly herald the arrival of Vista as something fresh. But for Mac users, they’ll know that it’s just a rip-off in a desperate attempt for Windows to remain the most popular operating system in the world.
It just goes to show bad Windows is lagging behind Apple, and how shameless Microsoft can be. While people have to WAIT for Vista, we Mac users are already enjoying the programs, added security and stability of OS X. So Apple will always be one step ahead of the ubiquitous Windows platform, unless Steve decides to seriously screw things up which I believe he won’t.
That’s so ironic. OS X is so good and yet people are still cannot bear to part with their pathetic Windows machine. Oh, not to mention a Mac does not crash and the chances of getting viruses are extremely slim. No wonder it’s the world’s most advanced operating system.
And to convince people that Vista is indeed brilliant (which I truly doubt), Microsoft has given new names to the copied features in OS X. A lmited software which edits photos called Windows Photo Gallery is nothing but a similar version of iPhoto. Needless to say, iPhoto is obviously still much better. Slideshows of the photos have been claimed to be improved, but I’m uncertain it’ll reach the professional standard of iPhoto slideshows.
The use of the ‘glass-like’ buttons and fade-offs and gradients have been termed Windows Aero. What crap. It was already long present in OS X. That impressive name just tricks people into believing that Vista is a quantum leap from the Mac.

Windows Player 11 claims to be more streamlined, with their new URGE stuff integrated with it. But I’ll still remain faithful to iTunes, the much acclaimed music player.

Windows 3D Flip, another perfect example of a Mac rip-off. It is similar to the F9 key function on a Mac, where all application windows running will be shown, allowing you to select the one you would like to work with. Vista has merely upped it by making it a more attractive 3D picture of the screen.

Internet Explorer 7 supports tabbed browsing, something which Safari has already. New gadgets in the main menu still can’t beat Widgets in Dashboard. Also, here's the new more user-friendly start bar.

But do not say that I’m bias towards Apple, for Vista does have some really cool stuff. The media centre looks really professional and clean cut. It is evident that Windows is going minimalist, which is what OS X has already accomplished.

In conclusion, Vista is worth the wait for Windows users if you’re thinking of purchasing a new computer. It will be a tremendous improvement from XP. But for those who are more adventurous, just ditch Windows and get OS X Tiger 10.4.5. It would be Vista-come-early for you.
But once again, I can’t stress enough that Vista is a Mac rip-off. What a joke! Haha…
Oh Microsoft you just can’t triumph over Apple, admit it…Muhahahahaha…
Yeah the Mac still rules!

Apple prank call
"Stealing music is not right, and I can understand people being very upset about their intellectual property being stolen. But the stick alone isn't going to work. The right solution is to compete with the Kazaas of the world and to beat them. And that's what we're trying to make happen."
- Steve Jobs, BusinessWeek, August 18, 2003
It struck me that Steve's quote was the first intelligent thing anyone has said in the file-sharing debate, so I thought I'd give Apple's new iTunes service a try. iTunes is, of course, a Napster-like file-sharing program that lets you legally buy most popular songs for just 99 cents apiece. The service has been enormously successful, selling 5 million singles in its first two months of business.
I found out, however, that iTunes only works on Apple computers, as you'll see in the following prank call to iTunes technical support.
APPLE: Hi, thanks for calling Apple. My name is Abraham. Do you have your serial number handy?
JH: No.
APPLE: Okay, I can help you find it. Is your computer up and running now?
JH: Yes.
APPLE: What color is the apple in the top left corner? Is it blue?
JH: I don't see an apple.
APPLE: In the top-left corner, the apple? Is it blue, or multi-colored?
JH: Right, there's no apple.
APPLE: In the very top-left corner?
JH: I know which corner is the top-left. There's no apple there.
APPLE: What do you see?
JH: I see a piece of paper with an E.
APPLE: Which screen are you looking at?
JH: My computer screen.
APPLE: No, I mean, what does your screen say?
JH: It says "Larger Balls and Penis, More Satisfaction."
APPLE: I'm sorry?
JH: I think I'm in e-mail. I keep getting these dirty ads in my Windows e-mail. Do you know how to turn them off?
APPLE: What kind of computer is this? Do you have an Apple?
JH: No, it's an IBM.
APPLE: You're calling for support on an IBM?
JH: No, I'm trying to get iTunes to play on my IBM.
APPLE: Oh, I see--
JH: I am trying to buy music online so I do not have to steal it illegally. I went to your iTunes site and downloaded the software, but my computer won't play it.
APPLE: Yeah, you're right, it won't. You need -- just a minute here -- I'm pretty sure you can't download iTunes music and play it on a PC. Let's see here. [pause] You could use MusicMatch Jukebox software, but you'd need an iPod in order to use it.
JH: Can I buy music through MusicMash?
APPLE: I'm pretty sure you can't. Let me take a look here. [pause] No, it's showing here that you cannot. You have to have an Apple. Let's see here -- bear with me here. [pause] Okay, so what you're going to need is a Mac computer running Mac OS X; otherwise, you won't be able to access iTunes Music Store.
JH: How do I buy music online, then?
APPLE: You'd have to go somewhere else other than iTunes Music Store. There's other places you can buy music -- I think buymusic.com is one of them. You'll just have to pull up a search engine and find them that way.
JH: You can't mail me a song on a floppy disk?
APPLE: Not through iTunes Music Store. You have to access it through iTunes. We can't do that for you.
JH: Why don't you guys support PCs?
APPLE: Because we're Apple.
JH: ...
APPLE: We do in some other ways, like if you have an iPod, we'd give you software to use it, but with our applications, we support our applications on our computers.
JH: Should I just start up Kazaa and steal my music?
APPLE: No, I can't say you should do that, but I'm saying iTunes Music Store isn't the only place you can buy songs.
JH: I was reading your website, and it said "shop till you bop." I really just want to, uh, shop till I bop. You're saying I can't shop till I bop?
APPLE: No, you can't. Because you have a PC.
JH: So there will be no bopping without an Apple.
APPLE: That's right, sir.
JH: Isn't it more expensive to buy an Apple than just buying the CD?
APPLE: Like I said again, there are places out there where you can download music on a Windows machine, same thing as iTunes, but for the PC. Not sure if it's exactly the same, but it's similar.
JH: I really want to shop til I bop.
APPLE: I'll be happy to sell you an Apple.
JH: I don't want an Apple. They're too heavy.
APPLE: We have some light ones too, like an iBook.
JH: I heard that iBooks can only be used in Starbucks.
APPLE: Well, in that case, I'm not sure what to say, but that's about all I can do for you. Okay?
JH: Could you hum the songs to me?
APPLE: NO.
And with that, he hung up on me. I had to admit, I was getting used to the way these calls are ending.
Funny ain't it..well, the dumb people who cannot differentiate between the almighty MAC and IBM.

Alas! Time has been made…
To all readers: I would like to start off by asking for your apologies…because I feel so bad about not updating my blog for SO SO SO SO long. It has been ages since I signed in to blogger…but I hope this doesn’t let any of you to speculate that my online life is non-existent.
It’s just that my focus on the internet has been forcefully changed by circumstances, from fun and blogging to the serious and boring SCHOOL WORK AND PROJECTS. Yup, so my stack of assignments has robbed me of blogging.
Well, as I’m typing this, I gaze to the top right hand corner of my iBook’s 14 inch screen, and I notice that the time is a late 1:22am on Sunday. Beside me my compact little hi-fi is tuned to 933 to keep me company. I have just finished tidying up my otherwise messy room, and expectedly, I collected a huge chunk of dust every time I swiped my yellow cloth on the surface of almost anything. My room was filthly, but that was a moment ago. Now it is noticeably cleaner. I just had a shower in the middle of the night, and when I was bathing I decided that I MUST dedicate some time to my blog which I’ve neglected totally, so here am I typing this post. If not, I’ll feel guilty for not satisfying my readers (if any) with a little insight into my busy life.
Ok, now for a brief run-down of my March holidays.
Oh wait. It CANNOT be termed holidays…it should be called home-based schooling instead. Yup.
Saturday: Studying at home, tuition in the evening
Sunday: Church, then my friends came over to play
Monday: Studying at home, piano lessons at night
Tuesday: Studying at home
Wednesday to Thursday: Piano Ensemble camp, helped paint classroom for 30 mins
Friday: Studying at home again
Saturday: I’ll tell you now.
Today (or rather yesterday since it’s past 12) was remarkably one of the slackest days of the whole week. I didn’t touch my work for once. Amazing ain’t it?
The first half of the day was spent with Samuel and Mu Yao, then came home to view the Choirboys videos courtesy of Samuel, had tuition, ate dinner, watched some TV and lazed around, cleaned my room and now blog.
In the morning, Samuel and Mu Yao darlings and me met up at East Coast MacDonald’s just to catch up with each other and talk. I was 15 minutes late, and Mac was quite crowded. So after eating just a little bit of bread, we headed out for a bench.
Oh wait. Pause. For those of you who do not know the two, Mu Yao and Sameul was my classmates from VS last year. Mu Yao is still at VS, but Samuel is currently at TJC integrated programme. All of us were from the Art Elective Progamme (AEP), and not to forget Mu Yao also owns a Mac…Mac mini G4 to be specific. He was the one who converted me from Windows to the world’s most advanced operating system: OS X Tiger!
Samuel brought out his Fujitsu Tablet PC (still a Windows) to amaze us with the material he compiled from the net about this UK boy band called The Choirboys, which he is crazily in love with. His research resulted in a whole folder dedicated for them, which includes photos, PPTs, videos, lyrics, web pages and stuff. But soon we found out that that bench had red ants occasionally, it was hot, and the tablet screen was very reflective in the open, so we couldn’t really make out what was on the screen. Oh ya…I found the Windows XP Tablet Edition’s overall feel is much nicer and the buttons look so much more artistic.
So after tampering with Samuel’s toy for a while, we decided to go to Mu Yao’s condominium nearby (the one beside Parkway Parade) instead to talk. We walked there, and to our utmost surprise it so happened that Goh Chok Tong was visiting the condominium. So we had the pleasure of seeing him, albeit surrounded by residents and photographers. The condo was a truly beautiful place…the toilets had AIRCON and it was so cold inside there, the pools reminded me of Sunway Lagoon in Malaysia, and the whole condo itself looked like a perfect permanent residential hotel.
*envy*
We stayed there for quite some time; Mu Yao passed me his wonderful pictures about the AEP trip to Mediacorp on Friday, some pictures of himself, Samuel kindly copied his entire Choirboys folder and his incredible Porsche Carrera GT model photos to my 40GB portable hard disk, and I gave both of them some songs.
Oh ya, plus Mu Yao copied for me the whole LJJ's Cao Cao album! And his songs totally rock! (Except that I'm not used to hearing a chinese pop singer singing vaguely to an english song.)
Finally we went Parkway to eat lunch. But first we visited Best and Harvey just for fun. I learnt that LCD TVs were pioneered initially by LG, so Samuel was saying that LG’s LCDs are good. We saw Samuel’s new Yamaha hi-fi set costing a whopping $700 plus, all in his $5000 package to refurnish his room. Cool.
After eating at BK, we parted at around 1:30pm and the thoughts of homework started to overwhelm my mind once again in the bus.
And it just came across my mind as a lame joke that robbing or stealing is against the law, and education robs me of my online life and personal and relaxation time, so in other words, education, something controlled by the school, which is supposedly lawful, actually goes against the law by ripping our life away! So is studying against the law?
Well, I truly hope for this to come true. But in the meantime, that’s just wishful thinking on our part.
Long live Steve Jobs, long live iTunes, long live iBooks and Mac Minis and long live Macintosh and Apple. To hell with Windows and Bill.
