Thank you, Hillsong

Scroll through my iTunes library now, and out of the 547 songs taking up 2.79 GB, 154 songs are by Hillsong and Hillsong United (the youth branch of Hillsong). Clearly, Christian music, especially Hillsong songs, has contributed to a very large percentage of the music I listen to.

And they have released two new albums recently, both of which I only knew of today!

Hillsong released Saviour King and United released All Of The Above (an uncanny title which is also shared with an album by Youth Alive WA). Kelvin bluetoothed most of the songs to my phone today, and now they are stored on my iPod to keep my bus rides company.

Hmm I must say that Hillsong is my favourite band! Not so much because they produce good music, yes they definitely do, but more because many of their songs throughout many albums have touched and changed my life. For example, At The Cross, From The Inside Out and Mighty To Save from Mighty To Save have a special meaning to me personally, these are songs that I treasure because they have comforted me and helped me draw closer to God.

I have seen Hillsong mature from their first few albums all the way till now. In their later albums, I could really sense true, genuine, sincere and passionate worship in their live albums. These two new additions are no exception, even though All Of The Above is a studio production. However, what concerns me is that Hillsong is being more and more like United in terms of musical style, leaning more towards the pop rock side, hence I don’t blame my dad (and many more adults) when they complain that Hillsong is too “rock” for their more “quiet” taste. Indeed, Hillsong has grown to be very much more pop, but still, all their songs are great for worship as a means to connect to God. The lyrics are still as meaningful and they continue to reveal different truths every time. They are my source of strength, encouragement and motivation.

Hillsong has shown me revelations, one after another, so keep it up, keep praising the Lord, and thank you! You have been a blessing to me! Oh...get those new songs if you haven't, they are phenomenal!

SP1!

Time flies.

It seems as if it was just yesterday when Windows Vista was released, and now Service Pack 1 is already taking shape, with an initial beta version going to be released soon. According to the Windows Vista Weblog, rumour has it that July 29 would be the date for this release. This news wouldn't excite the consumer market much, because no consumer really cares about bug fixes and Microsoft allowing Instant Search to run in the background together with third-party search softwares (like Google Desktop Search) etc.

Nevertheless, this is my advice to all those who are planning to purchase a new computer sometime soon: If possible, hang on until SP1, it will be worth it, though it still looks very much the same as before. No point getting a new system only to be deemed outdated in a few months time...

Windows Live OneCare 2.0 (Beta)

What other people are thinking of Microsoft and OneCare: Hey, they are releasing a product to compensate for the inadequacies of another of their product! They are using another product to make their original product (XP/Vista) more secure. LOL!

Why can't they just include it in Vista for free?

Monopoly is not a game

Random thought: Google, Microsoft and Apple are all monopolies in their own rights.

Google, the fast-becoming monopoly of the internet. They dominate over internet searches, ads, gmail, gears (online apps), and soon over desktop search too, now that Microsoft has caved in to Google's harsh request to make Vista's Instant Search accept third party search software. With Vista now, if you install Google Desktop Search, this will run together with Instant Search, meaning decreased system performance as two indexers are running simultaneously.

Microsoft - need I say more? The market share of Windows says it all. Complete monopoly. That's why the EU is always after them, and they are almost always entangled with anti-trust lawsuits.

Apple, the lethal combination of iTunes and iPod has locked away any other form of competition in the music player market. If not for iTunes on Windows, the iPod wouldn't have made it big. In the music player market now (US), iPod ranks first, then the Zune, then all other music players by other companies.

Monopoly, its more than a game. It's being infused into our everyday culture.
